"I almost didn't buy this shirt from Real Belonging, because I live in the south, and I worried that wearing these colors in public could make me a target.
But then I realized that being nervous to wear a shirt supporting the trans community is an even greater reason to wear it... not less.
It's easy to be an ally when it's safe.
It matters more when it's not.
Because if I'm worried that the colors of a shirt could make me a target, I can't begin to fathom the weight a trans person carries every single time they walk out the door.
Buying and wearing a shirt doesn't lift that burden.
But it does send a message — to a vulnerable community and to those who would harm them — that they do not stand alone.
While also supporting Brandyn Gallagher, a person who deserves better than they've been treated and yet still somehow finds it in their heart to give back to their community and show compassion to others even when they do not return it."
